Clio Herbert is a French-American jeweler, metalsmith, and artist currently working in New York City. She holds a BFA from California College of the Arts with a major in Jewelry and Metal Arts and a minor in Visual Studies. She is currently enrolled in the MA program at Bard Graduate Center: Decorative Arts, Design History, Material Culture.
Her jewelry practice comprises one-of-a-kind pieces presented in small capsule collections, drawing visual inspiration from modernist jewelry. Each piece is entirely fabricated by hand; the silver Clio uses is often forged from ingots she pours, while the stones are sourced once a year at the Tucson gem show. Guided by a fascination with the concept of bodily adornment and the relationship between jewelry and the wearer, Clio creates sculptural pieces of adornment that require the body to be activated.
